1st Stuttgart Day of Research Software
What is research software?
Research software encompasses all software solutions developed and used by researchers for scientific purposes – from small scripts for data analysis to complex simulation and high-performance computing programmes. It forms the backbone of modern science by:
- enabling experiments, simulations, and data analysis,
- making research results reproducible,
- accelerating innovation,
- and making new scientific questions accessible in the first place.
Research software at the University of Stuttgart
The University of Stuttgart has strong expertise in the development of research software in engineering, mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and other fields. Many working groups and scientific staff develop internationally visible software that is successfully used in research and industry. This makes Stuttgart an ideal place to highlight the importance of research software and promote exchange between developers, users, and interested parties.
Agenda
The event will begin on Monday, 2 March 2026, at 4 p.m. in room V47.02 with keynote speeches that will shed light on:
- what research software is,
- why it is essential for science,
- and why Stuttgart is a leading location for its development.
This will be followed by an exhibition with posters and demos from 4:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the foyer of V47. In addition to the participants of the deRSE26 conference, we cordially invite all Stuttgart-based working groups and individuals who are actively developing research software to present their software.
