Advanced Visualization Tools at the CCMC: Contributed and CCMC Developed

The Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC) has been providing open access to simulation output for over 25 years. Each of the now over 100 models available at the CCMC come with tools to visualize and analyze the output. Each new model onboarded goes through a process to make sure that visualization of the output is available. New advanced visualization tools are now available for several models (with more coming) at the CCMC. Many of these utilize Kamodo, a NASA open source Python package. The new tools provide an interactive view of model output with new options for coordinate transformations as well as new data/model analysis.
The CCMC accepts contributed simulations, often made by model developers themselves, from models we currently support. These runs can be analyzed with existing visualization tools and the new advanced visualization tools. They are often state of the art simulations that have been used in publications. Providing these runs to the CCMC enables broader community use and analysis of these valuable simulations.
The CCMC also makes available visualization tools developed by the scientific community. The CCMC works to create a web interface to these tools to make these great new tools available to a wider audience, especially when accessing the CCMC’s large archive of runs. An example of one such tool is kaipy from the Center for Geospace Storms (CGS).
